Biographical sketch of William B. Ide and his letter to Senator Wambaugh : ms., [ca. 1846-ca. 1885].

An incomplete and somewhat abbreviated Ms. copy of his book, published in 1880. Transcribed for H.H. Bancroft by Thomas Savage. Based on information received from Ide himself, from his daughter, Mrs. Sarah E. Healy, and from W.M. Boggs, the biography covers family background, his overland journey to California in 1845, the events of the Bear Flag Revolt, and experiences during the Mexican War. The letter [ca. 1846-47?] to Senator Wambaugh gives a detailed account of the Bear Flag Revolt and vindication of his claim to title of conqueror of California, in opposition to J.C. Fremont's.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
